AFP reports(4/3):

"A bomb exploded outside a passenger terminal at Davao airport in the southern Philippines on Tuesday, killing at least 10 people, officials said.

The explosion went off around 5.15 pm (0915 GMT) outside the airport terminal's arrival section shortly after a domestic flight touched down, an Air Transportation Office spokesman in Davao said.

Davao legislator Prospero Nograles told local radio: 'There were 10 already killed, based on reports I received.'

Military southern command chief Lieutenant-General Narciso Abaya said there were 'several casualties' in the blast at Davao, the biggest city in the southern Philippines.

He said: 'This is the information that I received. The bomb exploded in the vicinity of the arrival area, but not inside the airport building.

'We do not have the exact figures of casualties and we also don't know what kind of explosive was used.'

Suspected Moro Islamic Liberation Front separatist rebels were blamed for a car bomb attack outside Cotabato airport in the southern Philippines last month that left one person dead and six other people injured.

The Abu Sayyaf kidnap-for-ransom group, which has been linked to Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network, has also been blamed for a string of bomb attacks, including a blast in the southern city of Zamboanga in October which killed three people, among them a US soldier. -- AFP
