Please forgive my intrusion, but I'm a newly qualified PPL getting conflicting advice regarding reporting intentions ...

Departing on a VFR flight involving a round trip, turning points at overhead five or six places. One bit of advice says tell ATSU all of it (i.e. via overhead A, overhead B, .... overhead F, and return to XYZ via ZYX.) at the outset.

However, I'm acutely conscious of how long all this is taking, and that pilots "giving their life history" are a bane to you all.

Should I go with the other advice which says, "... operating in the vicinity of" one of them. Yet all the turning points are a minimum of 20 miles apart.

What's best, all at once at the first "pass your details", or "next turning point..." at each report?

My advice would be to keep it as simple as possible i.e:

Initial call "GABCD en route to X request RIS/FIS"

then subsequently, "GABCD Overhead X setting course for Y"

and so on;.

Obviously if you require a zone entry then you would need to specifically request that when needed.
