the word on the street here in iaa-land is that the proposed deal for the iaa to provide atco's to nerc has fallen on its face at the 11th hour . not many details at the minute, except for the fact that the first 2 irish guys are staying put. anyone any light to shed on the matter ?

What ever happened to the "Licence harmonisation program" ?
I thought that was going to become effective this year and that european ATCs could work in the UK without having to completely retrain. Do the Irish have the same licences as those ATCs in the UK ?

Irish ATCO's hold ICAO, not UK licences.

As for harmonisation - there has been a thread on here about it which basically says you won't automatically have the right to work in another EU country - it just means the meanings of the ratings on the licence will be the same.

the guys going over all have to do a "competency" check and some writtens, then they have to join phase 2 of a cadet course, and then nerc. so i guess the licences are very different!

also the iaa dont issue licences to their atco's, icao or other, they are all "kept" at hq. we dont even get visiting rights to them. guess they dont want people to travel of their own accord!!
