Might seem a silly question but...

If you want to release a large quantity of helium balloons (as part of a sports' day, for example), do you have to apply for permission or advise NATS or military controllers?

Would welcome any views or advice.

Silly Answer.

Depends if it is an indoor or an outdoor event! :D

Basically baloons of more then 1000 need the permission of the CAA.

But the correct wording on all this is in the Air Navigation order

Section 1 /76

Was on a Fam Flight a couple of years back and remember being given Traffic Information on some lose ballons. Oddly enough they didn't show on T.C.A.S.

If it was NOTAMed you would get every evil sod in the area turning up to chop them up.

It's quite common in some parts to have balloon popping comps.

Loads of ballons are released and its a free for all planes in a circuit trying to catch them.

Very similar to the bog roll out the window at 10000ft game.
