Hi guys,

I'm in the process of doing my CPL training, and my instructor always wants me to do visual rejoins for landing via the VRPs. I have always tended to keep away from VRPs, on the basis that everyone and his dog heads straight for the darn things.

I realise from a controllers' point of view an accurate position report is preferable with all those 7000's squawking at you, but is it necessary to give a positive fix, i.e. overhead XXX VRP, or are you happy rejoins via a random entry point for the reason I mentioned above, providing I can give you an idea of my position, e.g. 10nm NW, etc.?

PS for any EGHH controllers reading this, why is Tarrant Rushdon a VRP? It's a bitch to see, particularly in the winter sun. Blandford army camp is much more prominent.

Have you ever tried to find Pirton from the air? Hemel is easy though. EGGW VRP's.

Actually flying over VRP's is actively discouraged. Have a read of AIC 12/1999 (Yellow 318). This should go some way to answering your question.
