ATPL / CPL without time off work ?

I aspire to an CPL, not because I have an ambition to become an airline pilot, but because I should like to get an instructors rating and would love to teach people to fly at weekends.. .. .The problem is that I run my own business and just can't take more than a day or two away from my office - so the mandatory classroom time is a problem.. .. .Is there anywhere that offers an ATPL / CPL distance learing course with the classroom time at weekends or in the evenings ?. .. .Julian

Hi Julian,. .. .Chris here. I never knew you had aspirations of being an instructor. Is Daryl aware of this? The thought is terrifying!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> . .. .I'm in a similar position to you, but I have not been able to see a way round the mandatory ground-school. My understanding is that you have to do 2 weeks of ground-school for each of the two sets of exams. This ground-school has to be run by a training organisation qualified to do (in your case) distance learning ATPL theory. They don't get the license if they don't do the ground-school as part of the course. I had a good look at those schools offering distance-learning ATPL theory, and I didn't see anyone offering anything less than two-weeks at a time.. .. .Sorry! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> . .. .Flik

Hi!. .. .(Already e-mailed this to Julian in response to the locked thread on Private Flying, before I found the post in this forum. Duplicating it here for everyone else to comment on.). .. .First of all, you don't actually need a CPL to instruct. You only need the CPL if you want to get paid for instructing. Julian replied to my mail and said he thought you need to do the CPL theory, even if you're not getting paid - I don't know the answer to this, so can anyone else confirm/deny?. .. .More relevant, though, is that the full-time studying is compulsary, and as far as I'm aware no one currently offers this at the weekend. However, it is worth checking out London Guildhall University, as they only require 2 weeks full-time for the ATPL theory (two blocks of one week), whereas everyone else requires 4 weeks (two blocks of two weeks).. .. .Hope that helps!. .. .FFF. .----------
