Hello everyone-I am on the old CAA system for CPL/A. Having over 700hrs now and will have to pass the CPL/skill test before the end of June. However, Is June 30 deadline for CAA IR as well? Thanks for any reply-James

There is no such thing as a 'CAA' IR. For a few years now the UK IR Skill Test has been JAR compliant and the rating thus obtained could be added to either a UK national or a JAA licence.. .. .The critical thing about 30 June is that after that date, the UK CAA are prohibited by law from issuing UK national licences. They can and will continue to maintain those licences and to add ratings to them unless and until prohibited by EU law (which, with the introduction of EASA, may not be too far distant).. .. .Provided that the UK national CPL is issued prior to 1 July, you will (EU law aside) be able subsequently to add an IR to it. You will not, however, then be able to obtain a UK national ATPL although any UK national ATPL theoretical examination credits will remain valid for the issue of a multi-crew type rating and, subject to currency and EU law, for the issue of a JAA ATPL.

RC,. .. .But am I right in saying that after that date, all IR's will need to be under JAR rules, ie 55 hours etc. One will NOT be able to do 'Training as required' after that date.. .. .If I'm right, then anybody out there with a CPL without an IR should seriously think about getting one IMHO.. .. .PS

Crumbs. I thought non-approved IRs had withered on the vine some time ago.. .Was there not a date (1 Jan 00/99?) when you had to have started the non approved IR by?

Just read from CAA Cir No. 7 issued on Oct 22, 2001 For UK CPL(A) with out IR "After June 30 2002, the JAR-FCL acceptance period rules apply. These state that a pass in the ATPL(A) theory examinations will be accepted for the issue of an IR(A) during the 36 months from the date of the final pass in the examinations........ But if the IR is not obtained during the 36 month, the ATPL(A) theory credit lapses and a candidate would have to re-pass the ATPL theoretical examination" . .Any comments?
