Does anyone know where I can find the JAA reg on licence conversion for one year ??? Living in Fiji and its a bit hard to get any info ?? Actually any info on converting a Aussie or Fijian Frozen ATPL would really help me out. Best place ... Cheapest ... Easy .. etc . .. .Cheers

Water World. .I see that you have only recently joined the forum so welcome. Your question has come up many times and will continue to do so. I can point you in the right direction although the news is not encouraging.. .. .Firstly lets clarify the question of Conversion. There is provision for this in the JAA regs. JAR-FCL 1.015 details the requirements. Unfortunatley it is based on the reciprocity of licence aceptance between JAA and Non JAA member states of which there are none at the moment. For example if the Australian Authorities came to an agreement with a JAA member state,the UK for example, and via versa then we could all convert our Aussi licences to a JAA licence issued by the host member state.This licence however would not have to be acepted by other JAA member states. . .. .You will find everything you need to know on the JAA web site <a href="http://www.jaa.nl." target="_blank">www.jaa.nl.</a> Do a search on this forum and you will find an excellent post by Redsnail. A lot of work went into it and you will find all your answers there. . .. .In your case there is no conversion and like the rest of us you will have to do all the 14 theory exams as well as any flight trainning. my 2 cents.... .. .There is no actual ICAO to JAA "conversion" unless the country that issued the licence has a BASA (basic aviation safety agreement ?) signed with the JAA. The FAA hasn not-so far.. .. .However, holders of an ICAO licence can be credited with their previous experience towards a JAA licence. (JAR-FCL 1.016). .. .In my case-I hold an FAA ATP. I was told I had to pass the full JAA ATPL written (distance learning for example from Horizon swiss flight academy)and a checkride. Which will get me a JAA CPL-IR with frozen ATPL. For the full ATPL one needs 500 h of multi crew time.. .. .Don't know the procedure for anything lower than an ATP though, talk to an FTO e.g. Horizon !

I am in a similar situation. Here's what I've been told by the CAA. Please, bear in mind that this information pertain to my specific situation, which may or may not be similar to yours. I have 3000+ hours with 1700 multi-crew jet. My requirements:. .1. JAA 1st class medical (700p). .2. Pass all 14 JAA ATPL(A) exams. Te 650 hours. . are waived. I only needed to buy the books . . (I strongly suggest Bristol Ground School),. . but I don't need the 2 weeks brush up course. . (although I advise you do th brushup). . .3. Pass an "observation ride" with a . . CAA-qualified examiner. I did mine at. . FlightSafety International (USA) when I got. . typed in the EMB145. . .. .Hope this helps.
