Just to see what you lot have to say on this matter.... .. .I'm taking a gap year before going to Uni, and am working full-time as a student engineer. I am going to ensure that I allocate most of my earnings to flying, so it doesn't get spent on beer . .I hope to go to Naples Air Center, or similar establishment to finish the PPL before the year is out, and sometime after that do one of the following.... .Either: Some more hour building in the States, maybe a little bit of twin time. OR ATPL ground exams through distance learning.. .My questions are...If I do the ground exams, do I have to complete flying training within a certain time after completion? Also, if I do the exams, does that rule out any chances of sponsorship if/when they return.. .If you have any advice, or an opinion on this, tell me! I want to make the right decision!. .. .Regards,. .. .MS

On completion of the full set of ATPL examinations, you have 3 years to gain a CPL/IR on gaining an IR these exam credits last a further 7 years, and then a further 7 years each time you renew your IR.. .. .As whether to do you ATPL first or hour build well, that's your choice. . .. .When you have taken your first exam (which may be a year into the course) you then have 18 months to get all the exams in.. .. .If you have all the hours needed to get a CPL but not the exams they will be a very big drag,. .. .On the other side if you have completed the exams you have the three year time limit ticking,. .. .You pays your money and takes your choice,. .. .Good Luck!

Mikey,. .. .If you're taking a year out, and you're considering doing the exams, it might be worth doing them full-time if you can afford it. Everybody I've spoken to says that it's much easier that way - and having just started doing the distance-learning myself, I can confirm that it takes a lot of dedication to get the studying done!. .. .FFF. .---------
