I may be moving to Germany in the next few months. What do I need to do in order to fly D registered planes with my UK JAR PPL?

Also, are there any aerodromes near Landau (Rhine valley) where I can rent a plane? Alternatively, I will be 13 miles from the french border so would it be any easier to fly from France?

Any information gratefully appreciated.

JAR-FCL 1 Subpart A

1.015 Acceptance of licences, ratings, authorisations, approvals or certificates.

Basically this says that certifcates or ratings issued in a JAA member state(UK) must be accepted without formalites by another member state(Germany).

Some states may require some administrative action.

1.065 State of Licence Issue

If you are going to live in Germany for some time ( more than185 days is considered normal residency) then it may be advantageous to change the state of issue of your licence. All paper work for revalidation, renewals etc can be then done in Germany.

Hope this helps
