Remember the US rock group Canned Heat from the 70's ?
The lead singer was a big guy called Bob 'the bear' Hite.
John Mayall wrote a song about him on his album Laurel Canyon Blues, called The Bear.
But what was the name of the other singer ? A young lad who sang on Going up the Country. He died of Hypothermia whilst camping out on the side of a mountain somewhere in the USA.

Was 'Going up the country' part of the set they did at Woodstock? I had thought Bob Hite sang that.
Always rather liked their version of 'Let's work together', much better than Bryan Ferry's attempt.

You mean the bloke who sounded like Kermit the Frog?
It was Alan Wilson, wasn't it?

Just happened to find my copy of "Living the Blues", although it needed a dusting! FYI Alan Wilson also wrote "Going up the Country".
Sadly, I think you will find that drugs played a part in his death. He was almost blind by this time, and suffering from depression, and it is believed that he overdosed on sleeping pills whilst camping out in Bob Hite's back garden.

I recall the refrain "Run, Run, Run" - was that a single title or one of the tracks mentioned above - from my misbegotten pre-teens... still love it!
... and who likes Matthews Southern Comfort?

you're right, the other vocalist for Canned Heat was Alan Wilson.
Bob Hite sadly died many years ago.
Canned Heat themselves are still going, in fact they did a brief tour of the UK almost a year ago. The only original member of the band is Frank Cook (Drums)

Just remembered that "Run, Run, Run" was by Jo Jo Gunn.
Know there was a single by Canned Heat in the elder siblings' record collections, but darned if I can remember what it was or how it went...

Treadigraph, the other Canned Heat UK singles with some chart significance were "On the Road Again" and "Let's Work Together".

Thanks Newswatcher, it was "Let's Work Together" my brother or sister had, which I started humming just now - then realised that I was humming Bryan Ferry "Let's Stay Together..."!!! Doh!

Canned heat toured with the Naughty Rhythms Tour 2001.
Along with Dr Feelgood, Kursal Flyers and John Otway. Brilliant night. Otway was on between acts, doing what he does best.
