I've got Word Microsoft 2000 office. Now that I actually have to use it, every other sentence a warning pops up about it not being able to use "auto-correct", and asking if I want to install that. Since the original dsikette is still somewhere in a moving box, I DON'T want to install anything and click the NO button.
Only for the same thing to pop up again 2 sentences later.
This makes using word impossible, so I now have to write everything in Oulook which is a pain.

Any smart suggestions of how to get rid of this irritating question without finding the diskette and re-installing the whole thing? (no time for that at the moment)
Many thanks,
f40

In Word click Tools / Options / Spelling & Grammar

Try Tools/Options/Spelling & Grammer and uncheck "Check Spelling as You Type"

Might work

Or you could use Notepad or WordPad. Click Programs / accessories to find them.

Thanks lads; tried that already without success; nothings ticked there but it still doesn't leave me alone! :(

Try setting it, close Word, re-open Word and then unsetting it. It often clears the progs brains. I've found that technique quite successful (on many progs, not just Word)

At start up Word searches for a file named normal.dot (its global template). It holds components including Autotext. Search your computer’s hard disk for all files named normal.dot. (should be in the C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates)

Rename all files with the name normal.dot Then restart Word. Word will create a new normal.dot global template (if there are no other problems like a virus).
