BA adds three more flights to Cape route

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CAPE TOWN British Airways (BA) is laying on another three weekly flights, amounting to an additional 1200 seats a week, between London and Cape Town.

The move, announced yesterday, aims to meet demand during the peak summer season to the end of March next year.

Charles Forsyth, BA's GM for southern Africa, said the first of the extra flights, which touched down yesterday, was fully booked and forward bookings were strong.

SA was getting excellent publicity in the UK, due partly to the World Summit on Sustainable Development and also from the benefit visitors derived in the past year from the rand's weakness against major currencies.

The three extra planes would also boost cargo capacity out of Cape Town by about 50 tons a week, which will help exporters.

"This is great news for us, but more importantly it's great news for Cape Town and for South Africa's reputation as an international tourist destination," Forsyth said.

This week BA also introduces its first direct flight between London and Luanda, Angola.

Demand for the weekly flight is expected to increase.

I sit to be corrected on this ;) but ...

Is it not the case that VS were refused an increase above 3 rotations a week on the LHR~CPT but BA are now allowed to go from 3 to 7???
