Hi Guys,
I've been invited to a Britannia recruitment day next week and was wondering if any of you have any tips/advice?
Also, do any of you work for Britannia? Could you tell me what it's like?

Hi Ana, just posting you a "GOOD LUCK" message for your interview next week! I used to work for Airtours(now My Travel) for nearly 10 years & had a great time! If you've never flown before then joining a reputable & secure Charter Airline like Britannia is a good move! All I will say about your interview is be yourself, learn as much as you can about Britannia & TUI, & give it your best! Don't really know much about Britannia, I expect like most of the charters these days you WILL only work a seasonal contract & probably be laid off for the winter, but don't let that put you off! Anyway all the best! ;)

Well done on being chosen for a recruitment day, I wish you all the luck in the world.
I totally agree with the above post - just be yourself and let your personality shine through. We're not after catwalk models are anything of the like, but real people who genuinely enjoy life and meeting people. Most importantly enjoy the day - if in a group discussion, listen to others, offer your opinion but always take into consideration other peoples thoughts and suggestions. Don't be overbearing - Laugh and Smile ! ENJOY IT !!
I have been flying with Britannia for 7 years now and wouldn't change it for the world. Good luck and let us know how you got on.

I know that we will be asked to talk about ourselves for a short time. Do you have any ideas on what sort of things to talk about and what to avoid saying? Thought it might help to prepare a bit beforehand.

Very best luck to you. Great airline to work for. I have returned to BY after 2 years away to do my commercial pilot training after 3 years before at LGW as cabin crew. If rumours are true long haul returning in a big way next summer and BY will look after you very well! Good luck again and I can do you a very cheap Private Pilots Licence too if you are based at LGW;)

I worked for Britannia for 6 years and loved every minute of it. I firmly do believe majority of Britannia's criteria is personality and being thoughtful of others. Never start a sentence with "I think we should" or say " No" to anyone else's idea's . With the group stuff always listen and you could say " thats a good idea Jane we could also try ..........." Refer to passengers as Customers and talk about going that extra mile. Britannia are a great company I regret leaving. The trips are good ,the hotels are fantastic and the allowances are the best in the charter market. You still have to do the crusty night PFO occasionally but then you appreciate your trips more. Good luck I really hope you get it, the maths test is tough brush up on your long division and multipling long numbers. Also wear a skirt and tie your hair back clean your shoes and paint your nails. Above all smile remember someones name if they tell you and use it. :)

Don't know if I'm too late but check out www.britanniaairways.com and learn a bit about the history, bases, routes, etc. Thats what I did and when they asked me what I knew about the company I reeled it all off. Must have worked 'cause I got the job.
Was there for 3 seasons, and out of the three airlines I've worked for they were the most enjoyable. Would probably still be there but I packed it in for something less stressful - air traffic control.

Ana - forgive me if I'm too late for posting this reply but I've just got back from a longhaul trip.
When I was recruited we firstly had an assessment day followed by an interview at a later date, today, everything is done in the same day. You'll find out whether you have been successful quite quickly. I've spoken to a few of my friends in recruitment and they have advised me that they can lose a lot of people on the maths test - so polish up on the sums !!!!
I had to speak about a charity and why it should benefit from a £1 million donation. Difficult - but seeing as I had a well known charity which was quite successful anyway I advised them to give the money to a smaller charity !
The group discussion required you working together and deciding which is the most important thing considered by our customers - we had to put them from one to ten.
Well, I hope this helps - it may be a bit of the dark age stuff but I imagine the backbone of it would be similiar.

Just thought I'd let you know i got the job with BY! Found out a couple of weeks ago but was on holiday and just go back.
I wanna thank you for all your advice and encouragement, it really helped. I think training starts in January sometime and its a temp contract too.
Could any of you tell me whether I would be on short haul flights only or whether I would be doing long haul too with stopovers? Also, what is the pay like (basic and flying) and would we have to cover our own accommodation costs? Any other info would be great!

Congratulations - see you out on the line sometime. Sorry that I couldn't give you interview advice in advance of your interview: My interview was so many years ago (20+) that I don't think the experience is relevant in any way to what you get given.
Things were more primitive then - If you could eat and stand up at the same time, you were in! :) Sometimes I wonder how I got through the process - and sometimes, I think Britannia wonders the same thing.
Your flying patterns will be determined by your base, and aircraft types on which you are checked. I need to know your base at least to answer. Basic accommodation when flying is paid for by the company, but the package is complicated and will be discussed in your contract, as will the salary details (an open forum is not always the best place to be specific about salary packages).
Britannia is an excellent company to work for in many ways. They tend to be good at the big issues - they can also drive you into a blind rage with the small ones at the same time. Flying is still the best job I know of, and since "they" own the aircraft, "we" tolerate their less attractive activities.

Try the Friday Ad (http://www.friday-ad.co.uk/HomeNEW.asp) a local freebee paper with lots of accommodation local to Gatwick (poastcode RH6). Our training school may also be able to help.
Listen to Tightslot ..... hits the nail on the head as always ;) I've known TS for over 20 years. Says a lot when we have both worked for Company for so long. Mind you we joined at 16 :rolleyes:

Try a Gatwick Skyport newspaper for your housing needs !!!! they are slapped round the airport every friday and are a free paper.
They have a Classified section at the back and lots of house shares/flats available etc. Alot of crew advertise in them for lodgers etc.

Congratulations on getting the job. I have been working for the company for 5 years now and wouldn't change it for the world. I have seen some great places in that time and we still do some great long haul routes. You will be doing short haul for the first 2/3 months and then you should start to see some trips appear on the roster. For the accomodation - Crawley/Horley or better still Brighton (much more lively ;)). Wherever you choose you will have a great time i'm sure of it and meet lots of nice people!
Good luck on the training course and cant wait to share a bevvie..............or 5, downroute in some exotic place with you soon;) :p :D :p ;) x

Congratulations for your new job! Yipee!
I've also attended a Britannia interview last Sunday in Gatwick and made it to stage 2. I think I went well but I am still waiting for the final answer. We were 14 people initially, but only 7 had a panel interview.
Could you tell me how long it took for you to receive the YES letter? (I assume you live in the UK)

Did you get my email? Well done for getting through the day at BY. If you're successful (which I have no doubt you will be!) they will send you a letter within two weeks. Britannia sound great to work for and the recruiters were really nice too.
I still haven't heard anything about training dates. Actually, come to think of it, they haven't even sent me the contract yet!! Anyway, please let me know the outcome and hopefully we could be training together!! Best of luck Floaty!

I rejoined BY this year on a temporary contract and we have been invite back in December and early January so I presume you will be starting January time??? Great company to work for.. Great Cabin Crew.. You will love it.. Also I am sure uk_jetbloke will look after you if you get the pleasure of doing a flight with him;) Good ol boy!!!:D All the best again and if you fancy doing your Private Pilot licence... I know a man who can help...

Hi Ana,
my interview was on Nov. 17th. Today I called a friend I met during the interview, he said he got his positive answer AND the contract all in once, by mail, 2 days ago. He'll start his training on Jan. 29th. Considering that I gave them an address in Switzerland, I might get my answer early next week...
Today I also received an invitation from bmi british midland for short haul. The interview is on Dec. 7th and at this stage I am a bit confused 'coz I don't know if to buy a ticket or not... maybe I should wait for BY's answer first... :confused: :confused:

This is for Ana: I wanted to let you know I received my rejection letter today... (had my interview on Nov. 17th... could have replied a bit earlier!!...). I'm not too disappointed 'cause I've heaps of other interviews going on at the moment. Just had bmi last Saturday and booked GB Airways for early January. Maybe we'll catch up at the pub instead of the training centre! :p

Well done every1 whos been contracted to BY. Iv got my interview with BY on the 4th Jan. How many people normaly turn up to these recruitment days? I really hope I get the Job it sounds a really good airline to work for. If I get the job I will be based at Gatwick. Im only just 18 I hope that doesnt effect my chances. Iv been revising like hell on their history incase a question is fired at me on the day. OH...also does anyone know roughly how many people they are employing?
