I'm going to do some hour building in October - is it worth getting an IMC as well bearing in mind that I'll be starting full time modular groundschool in January?

I would do the IMC in the UK - what benefits if any would having an IMC give me for the ATPL's and eventually CPL?

Cheers.

If you have some tim eon your hands why not go over to the US and do the FAA IR, it costs about $3,300 for a 40hour course and if you pass then when you return you are entitled to add the IMC to your UK licence - hey presto, two courses for one!

Plus when you come to do your full IR in the UK you will have some valuable experince under your belt.

I would go out and do the IMC if you're intending to hour build in this country.
I found it increased my confidence no end, it was very good fun and its a constructive way to build hours. There is nothing quite like climbing through a layer of cloud and being VFR on top.

Good luck
