Colombo - India's players will not sport the team sponsor's logo on their uniforms at the Champions Trophy following objections to its design by the International Cricket Council (ICC), an Indian official said on Saturday.

"There will be absolutely nothing (on their uniforms)," team manager KM Ramprasad told Reuters.

The ICC had asked the Indian board to change the logo of team sponsors Sahara India after South African Airways, one of the main sponsors of the 12-nation tournament in Colombo, had objected to the logo's use.

Sahara, which owns India's third largest airline, agreed to change the logo name to "Subrata" - after its chairman Subrata Roy - and this move was approved by the ICC on Thursday.

Although the ICC approved changes to the logo, the game's ruling body said the logo graphics would also have to be changed.

But a senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official said the issue could not be settled before India's opening match in Pool 2 against Zimbabwe on Saturday.

"We gave them (ICC) so many options, but they don't want to accept," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told Reuters in India.

The ICC has signed a $550-million deal with Global Cricket Corporation (GCC), valid until 2007 for all ICC events, barring teams from endorsing products of companies that are rivals of official tournament sponsors.

India's leading players initially refused to sign the contract but agreed at the 11th hour after the ICC watered down certain clauses.

The Sahara group has interests in businesses ranging from financial services to aviation and media. The Link (http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?click_id=4&art_id=qw1032004441905S163&set_id=6)
