British European - Sponsorship Scheme

Just to let those wannabes know who don't already, British European and Cabair are advertising again in this months Flyer/Pilot.

Usual needed

GCESs, 2 A's, JAA PPL(A), 180TT, Ability to hold Class 1 (JAA)

Apply to Cabair in writing for application form.

I just got all the stuff for this through the post this am. It doesn't actually tell me when the training course starts. Does anybody know? I just need to know how long I would have to get the required 180 hrs TT if I were to be accepted.

How much does the student have to pay towards the training? Is it the same as the previous scheme? Does anyone know what the banks are like regarding loans for pilot training?

Its the usual Cabair thing.

£12k + VAT towards costs, plus they are wanting security by way of bond or guarantees for at least £15k.

First assessment stage at Cabair is £47. Second stage + interview is £117.50. Same old stuff really.

You have to work as an instructor for a maximum of 24 months before your 3 month induction into BE. No info about when the course is supposed to start though.

I know that loads of people will not have the entry requirements, but hey its great to see a scheme like this again. It can only be a good thing. <img src="tongue.gif" border="0"> <img src="tongue.gif" border="0">

I have the prospectus in front of me now, and no-where on it does it give a figure for a salary, in fact it actually says 'the salries may be less than the market rates apllicable to non sponsored employees' - meaning it is!

You have to shell out 12000 plus VAT for the training and also sign for a 15000 bond with BE should you fail to complete the 39 month employment with them.

It says that the 18-24 month period at cabair is 'work experience'. I don't know how many hours a day you will work, but my guess is they will have you there all week and maybe a saturday or sunday??? not too sure on that, i have a couple of friends who work down there, they said that when KLM UK did this quite a few dropped out as they could not afford to live down there!

To those in a position to apply for this scheme - who gives a toss how many days a week you have to instruct or how much you get paid. The fact is to get any scheme like this at the minute is almost a miracle, worrying about whether you'll have to work weekends at this stage is frankly insulting to those of us who have instructed 7 days a week 12 hours a day for the last several years to get into the positions we are in now.

Apply for the scheme and do your best to get selected - it will be a better use of your time preparing for the tests and interview.
