Hi guys,

Does anyone know how long by taxi the RAF base is from Grantham?

Cheers,

They pick you up in a bus.

indeed they do, but if you just happened to be curious about taxi journey length, it takes about the same time as a bus.

Hi Guys,

They mentioned nothing about a bus in the conformation letter I received yesterday. They said I'd have to finish my trip by cab.

How long is it about 10 mins? I'm just planning times here. I should be OK, I have estimated it to be a couple of miles.

Cheers,

EIDW

I closed the topic because the question had been answered, and we're trying to minimise Pprune's use of bandwidth. However, Dusty B has pointed out that Lincoln is closer to Cranwell by taxi (20 mins) and may well have a wider range of rail connections than Grantham. Hope this helps.. .If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to add them.

True. But to get to Lincoln you have to leave the mainline at Newark and catch the Thomas the Tank Engine which runs every fourth Thursday (unless you're coming from Nottingham direction this is not really viable). If I remember correctly, Grantham and Newark (only town in the UK which is an anagram of w@nker) are equidistant from Cranwell. Call a cab company and ask them!

I used to live there:

Take the train from Grantham to Sleaford, then you have a choice of cab or bus

Assuming you are arriving from Ireland into London, you need to go to King's Cross Station and take the GNER train about 2/3 stops to Grantham.

Thats what I did when I went to OASC. The bus/taxi ride was around 20 minutes.

Train to Sleaford (the only town uglier and more boring than Grantham), then take a taxi!

Unfortunately the 'Cranwell Express' train between Sleaford and Cranwell stopped running many years ago...........

Agree about the need for a car - but one with a boot, not a hatchback, for obvious reasons.......

Presuming you are going to OASC there is a bus which picks you up outside the main station entrance at Grantham and drops you off outside the candidates mess.

The times are. .Mon - Thurs 1125 1255 1425 1555 1720. .Fri 1415 1545. .Sun 1255 1425 1555. .Sat (only when 6th formers are boarding) 1305 1435 1605

It only takes about 10-15 mins depending on who is driving <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

I originally emailed EIDW directly when this thread was first locked.

In his reply, he said that he wasn't going to OASC for selection, but just for the Aptitude Tests in preperation for a place with BAe, hence the MT Bus not being made available to him.
