I'd like to say thanks to the controller at Stansted last Sunday evening. I made a complete f$%$^%£^ of my navigation and had to admit that I was "lost". Thanks for the help. It has made me think a bit more about navigation and planning.

Rex - glad your still around to tell the tale. Something i felt that was lacking in my cross country and navigation training was the lack of awareness and instruction in the approach / departure paths of IFR traffic to/from large airports. It is worth having a look at the SID'S and STAR's to see what becons they use, tracks used etc, etc. It will give you an overall' feel' for the airspace that you are flying around/ under as well as the frequencies of the airfield if it goes to a ball of chalk.

Rex, this is not ment as an insult or a put down, i don't know the circumstances of your particular situation. It's just meant to be food for thought for any PPL's who might read this

Good luck rex, and safe flying !
