Morning all,

There have been mandatory evacuations given by the authorities in Ft Luadedale, does anyone know if the company has put any plans in place to assist the crew we have laying over there?

Or why exactly we left a crew to ride out a hurricane that has been predicted for a week on a layover?

The evacuation orders are for people living in low level dwellings along the coast, for example single-family homes.

Many of the wealthier residents of South Florida "evacuate" by checking into sturdy concrete hotels a bit inland and ride out the Hurricanes there. This is exactly what our crews are going to be doing down there, so it's not really a cause for panic.

It's a big storm, but folks in South Florida are used to it.

Ride it out? What BS is this. Why taking the risk in the first place? We know since days the storm is coming. Deadhead the crew back on the last flight! Easy not rocket science.

Guys,
You are staying in a big concrete hotel, enjoying the huricanparty in the bar and "ride it out".
Nothing more, nothing less.

The crew will be sitting in their rooms, counting the allowances. What's so different?

Funny stuff. Maybe not.
A FA co-worker at my US Legacy was in her high rise concrete condo for Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Probably 120 wind gusts. She was somewhere around the 3rd to 4th floor if I remember right. All the water sloshed out of her toilet bowl from the building rocking.
Good news is the storm tracked west and MIA/FLL won't get the worst. It would seem that the alleged carrier would have put their crews in the path of a potential Cat-5. Total sheet IMHO.

I would probably rather be there than to be in the ME to be honest.

Stop talking out of your ass.

The authorities have warned people that this could be a devastating storm. The fact that an airline is knowingly leaving their crew at a station with a severe weather phenomenon closing in is utter negligence and downright criminal.

The crew hotel was designated as an emergency shelter apparently, you can guess who decided it was ok for the lazy pilots and their crew to stay. Wondering what would an insurance company say if a crew member was injured or killed in this situation.

Airbus would say it was his/her fault.

The airlines will not want the aircraft to be at risk. I'd bet all flights into the area were cancelled.
If an airplane was in MIA/FLL I'm sure despatch would have gotten the crew to ferry the airplane to somewhere safer... if the crews (include those on rest) could make it in time good, if not then too bad... as long as there were pilots the aircraft would get the hell out of Dodge.

Anil- the aircraft was NOT in Florida. Just the crew were.

I think it's completely unacceptable. They rode their luck with both Hurricanes!

Right there it is, totally idiotic stupid reasoning, utter regard for crew safety or even economic principles. Idiots! You are going the the way this rotten organization and government goes in the long way. BYE
