Hi gents,

In a few weeks my Baymac - Clements policy is up for renewal, and the new quote I just received is about 15% higher then last year's fees. Also, the deductibles are not offset anymore against the claims paid by EK, which was the case last year. This is getting pretty expensive now.
I heard of a new provider called VUMI through Baymac which seems a little bit cheaper, and they seem to offset claims paid by EK.

Questions:

- Does anybody has experience with VUMI, good or bad?
- Who is still using Baymac - Clements now that they are getting ridiculously expensive?
- Any other good extra insurance out there that I should consider?

I know this has been discussed before, but I would like to have recent information, especially since the Baymac - Clements insurance got 15% more expensive.

What do you mean the deductibles are not offset against EK anymore

BaYMAC rang me and offered VUMI as well so still sitting on the fence.

What are your thoughts on vumi as a package as against baymac

AXA PPP tried to increase my premium by 18% on renewal earlier this year. I pushed back and they dropped the increase to 7% very quickly. Still excessive when inflation is running about 3.5% and we've never made a claim, but a huge improvement. If you've not already tried it, might be worth a go .......
Good luck.

You Rock,

As per the latest info I got from our Baymac rep in Dubai, Clements stopped offsetting the deductibles somewhere last year.

I have never made a claim with Clements before, since I use EK for everything, and I asked him how I can bring in claims that were covered by EK to offset my deductible, and the reply was that it wasn't possible anymore. VUMI apparently does this.

I'm using EK all the time for my family, but they have rejected a few small things lately. Now I can't claim them from Baymac since it is well below my 1000$ deductible.
Also, I chose the 1000$ deductible just for this reason, it would have been offset by my EK medical bills anyway (kids do that to you), but suddenly that isn't true anymore, so now it makes sense to take the lowest deductible at a higher premium obviously...

It has been some time since last post in this thread but it is only place where VUMI is mentioned and I don't want to open new thread. I do not live in ME but I decided to write here since many EK pilots have medical insurance from Baymac.

Does anyone used VUMI insurance already? I live in China together with family and would like to use VUMI insurance from Baymac as stand alone health insurance. At the moment we are insured in Allianz China but this is 3 times more expensive than Baymac solutions.

Only one question that remains open for myself is- how reliable is VUMI as stand alone health insurance.

If its wrong place to ask that question than I am sorry.

This thread is a bit old and I'd like to update it with the latest from Baymac/Clements.

I've been on Baymac/Clements cover on a 'standalone' basis for 5 years, with no significant claims, but a pre-existing condition. My renewal is next month. The policy terms have radically changed, and the Premium has shot up by 40%. Yes FORTY percent!

Their promotional blurb says this is an 'across the board' increase due to high claim rates making the policy 'unsustainable'. The price hike is bad enough, but what kills it for me is they've added the condition that you must be in employment to avail of the policy. So basically you can never retire on this policy! What a load of codswallop. It seems blatantly engineered to get people to leave it, and then shut it down as a loser.

This to me is the curse of 'Group Schemes'. You may get a bit of a discount - initially - but once you're hooked, you're at their mercy. Individuals in the 'general population' on the major commercial policies cannot be abused so easily. If the Insurer jacks up such premia by 40% more than their rivals with similar policies - they may soon lose tens of thousands of customers. But jack up a Groupscheme rate, and only a few hundred (if that) may quit. And maybe you want them to quit anyhow if the adjustors say its a loser.

Anyhow, since Clements is no longer interested in underwriting sick pilots, Baymac have offered VUMI as an alternative. Another 'Groupscheme'. :ugh:
The Premium is about the same as I was paying before with Clements, but for me the cover is worse - a 12 month 'waiting period' for my pre-existing condition.
I have still to hear from any pilot who has used this company, so I have no idea what I'd be getting myself into if I opt for VUMI. My worst fear is that it's just another Groupscheme that will jack up prices and shut down in another 5 years, leaving me older and even more exposed to a market that doesn't want me.

If anyone out there has tried VUMI since the last post on this thread, please give us some feedback on your experience with them.

PS I'm not based in the ME, and Baymac sells outside that area, so this thread is of interest to other pilots who may not use this forum. Maybe I'll re-post this in a general forum.

Sadly, I have to agree.

Been with them them on a supplementary basis for 4 years also outside ME...year 1 was excellent, year 2 was good, year 3 sucked...definitely not renewing with this lot.
Was good while it lasted, until someone got greedy or, like Row Bot writes, they’re pulling some other scam.
Buyer beware..
