View Full Version : Medical Required - Confusion

Just been looking to renew my JAR PPL (to perhaps NPPL or LAPL as I see it now) and I can't decide what medical is required. Subject aircraft will likely be Cessna 172N in the UK.

Looking at a couple of articles last year, it's clear that EASA PPL or NPPL holders can self-declare from August 2016 - great!

Then when trawling through the CAA website for info (and to complete the self-declare) the LAPL holders actually need to visit a GP and get a medical examination (less stringent than the Class 2 AME medical).

However, then, on the self declaration, you can't fly EASA registered aircraft.

So which is it, Class 2, GP exam (LAPL), or self declare? I'm only interested in UK VFR daytime flying :ok:

It depends on what you are flying, what licence, where and when!

There is more information here http://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP1441_MedicalLicenceTable_V10(08March2017).pdf

Nice one kui - decided to eliminate all confusion and just go for a class 2 again, safest bet :ok:
