Hi All. This thread, not in any way can compare with the Master of imagery (VF) nor the incredible beauty of Nepal. However, we share with you some of our work and life in Malta and Gozo.

We sit in the Middle of the Mediterranean Sea. After many years droning along the radials of the NS and other places I am lucky and blessed to have this little Island almost to myself.

Roger, I see pics coming now.
Quite a marina you have on the above picture, what is the water depth?
Good diving in Malta?

Not done any diving yet cos it conflicts with the day job, The bends and all that. The harbour is deep enough to take the big ocean going cruise ships. I try to get pics for you

Any idea how I make my images big like VF manages in his great thread? You are posting your photos as attachments. := I think VF's method is to click the "insert image" button (in the editor) and put the image directly into the post. Give 'er a try. :)

Is that Xewkija heliport? Good to see it getting some use - it was almost deserted when I was there 2 years ago doing some TRI training for the Malta SAR flight at LMML.

You are posting your photos as attachments. I think VF's method is to click the "insert image" button (in the editor) and put the image directly into the post. Give 'er a try. That is correct, but to do that I believe one needs to provide the direct url to the pic on a photo hosting site such as Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com/).

DB, I think PB accounts are still available for free, so you might sign up there if you don't have another web server that might be able to host your pictures. Your pix are great but this will make the thread much more enjoyable. :ok:

Pa got posted. We went from rainy and cold Leuchars in 1959 to Malta (on the good ship Devonshire out of Southampton). Came home to a freezing cold North Weald in 1963.

Hey DB....No Brother; (Ithink) it has to be hosted on a site-that allows an open 24hr link to where the full data set of the picture is being stored on-line. That maybe/could be on Your own computer? ;)
I use photobucket :}

Hosting on your own site is the best way, but you will have to be prepared to re-size the image to meet PPRuNe requirements of 800 x 600.

Alternatively why not create a PPRuNe Album? That's what it has been set for, go to your User CP, Networks on the left side has 'Pictures & Albums', click and follow the bouncing ball. The peculiarity of the way it has been set up by IB requires the image to be approved by a moderator but once done it will be there in a decent size instead of the attachment process that you are using.

Great pics DB, just Amazing, I want to work there!

I know what you mean about the scan, I was flying a 139 for BHA for 4 years until the downturn an seniority hit:(.

Was hard to get back into a AS350 in my casual employ now with the steam gauges! and I've to a heap of hours in them but i didn't know where to look for awhile, its funny what you get accustomed to.

Im looking forward to your pics!.

Not quite sure what Pa did. He used to spend his days in a little place with some sort of radio/radar stuff near Dhingli cliffs. We lived in a hiring in Birkirkara.

Hi DB, thoroughly enjoying your posts. I first went to Malta in 1954 as a Navy brat flying out in a Viking belonging to Hunting Clan, 8 hours + refuel at Nice and returning 2 years later in a Short Solent flying boat of Aquila Airlines, fantastic for a kid. Have now spent the last 7 years holidaying on Malta and Gozo and always attend the air show. I assume you're at the old Gozo heliport, are you open for visitors, my last stint with the RAF was on the 412 and it would be interesting to see your machine. Cheers

DB one question & hope you don't mind ;)
You are now under 9H register...
How about AOC?
Asking on purpose ;) my last info from local CAA approx 2 years ago,
was no active helicopter AOC. And they told us that can be difficult to obtain one,
because of limited administrative work force :)

Great photos DB, brought back many memories.

I was in Malta from 1972 -1974 with 41 Commando Group, Royal Marines. We were based in St George's Barracks with our Sioux AH Mk 1's and spent many a happy hour either training or taking people on the Cook's tour around the islands.

BTW, The diving is - or rather, should I say, was, excellent on Gozo. Xlendi was particularly good with the remnants of the Roman fleet and the whole amphora sitting in the sand. Every time we returned to harbour, a local Policeman would inspect our boat to make sure we hadn't lifted any artefacts.

Is the Spitfire still in the small bay on the north side of Gozo? Only in about 30ft, or should I say 10 metres. The Roman stuff was at about 35 metres, if my memory serves me well.
