A PLEA FROM THE CHAIRMAN Jennifer de Donges OF HOOK MEMORIAL HALL, HOOK NR GOOLE, EAST YORKSHIRE, UK
To the despicable person who took our valuable clock from the wall inside the hall on the night of the 1st February 2017.
This was a clock used in the R.A.F. Operations Room during the 2nd world war.
We are a charity and struggle to keep things afloat and we would be most grateful if you could share this with all you friends, especially Antique dealers as this clock is very rare.
PLEASE TELEPHONE with any information
Jenny 07790508983 / 01405765407

Here is a photo of a similar clock but ours has ELLIOT on the back plate and the face is marked Keith Anderson.

What springs to mind is why didn't he buy a replica and swap them, no one would probably have been any the wiser in the short time and by the time they were aware of it, they wouldn't have any idea as to when it was actually stolen.......

Just as well he didn't as they soon clocked on something was amiss and a couple of pointers had the alarm bells ringing..

However, Justice holds a pendulum of sorts, which tends to regulate this sort of out-of-balance activity.

MPN11
20th Feb 2017, 18:35
How do they manage an 8 day clock? What are the SOPs?

Someone winds it every Sunday [but if there's a raid on, someone might forget?]
Aged Retainer comes in once a week to wind it [what happens if he gets sick, or dies?]
Duty Airman issued with key, winding for the use of [what happens if he's sick, hungover or forgetful?]

On these thin threads hung the survival of Great Britain.

In those days there were plenty of airmen so a clock watcher would be no problem.

Now if they had a clock watcher today it would not have been nicked

Now if they had a clock watcher today it would not have been nicked
But ... how would the clock watcher know when to wind the clock?

Details, details ... they're the things that make things work.

... like the killer Beagle guarding the clock, accompanied by his RAFP Feeding-Person.

There appears to be no escapement from clocking on to this thread, there has been some jewels posted so far, 17 jewels to be precise. I will continue to watch what happens and see how long it takes until it sweeps to the bottom of the page, I am surprised a thread clockwise has lasted so long.
