Luckily the Simulator Sessions have now been reduced to 3h and Briefing increased to 2h.

There are 3x3 hour sessions! Plus the extra briefing time, so they are actually spending more!
Why ruin a good story with the facts I suppose!

Isn't the third in place of the handling sim? We had 9 hours before. 9 now. So, no it's not more.
Still the same.

EBT is more expensive to run despite the shorter sim. It's being adopted industry wide as was AQP. TALPARC do some research before spouting nonsense.

It's all about getting better utilisation of a Simulator. How much time do we spend briefing and setting up in the Sim before we actually get going? All of that will now be done in a classroom and when we get into the Sim we go straight into doing what we need to do.

The new courses actually, in many cases, have more Sim time allocated despite the sessions being reduced to 3 hours. Also no break in the 3 hour session so no wasting precious Simulator time in the coffee room.

Let's try it and see how it works before we criticise.

Manual Handling will be 2 pilots @1.5hrs each-so an increase. There is a significant increase in 'Hands on' time with the 3h/2h ratio so actual sim time will be spent in training rather than briefing. That is progress-not a negative step. Although as pilots we are naturally conservative not all/every change is bad especially in the case of EBT. It is a major positive step forward.

The 3 hrs sim was on plan long before CM was appointed

There are a lot of things that are broken in EK but 3 hour EBT sims isn't one of them.

Like the replies above have stated, it is more expensive to run EBT, and it is an overall increase in sim time for training for all courses (including PPC which is now 3x3 sessions)

This rumour is now laid to rest

This really does seem to be a significant improvement over 'traditional' programs. EBT must be the way to go and I know from conferences that many are/will look at the experiences here with great interest, us included. More relevant and focused training based upon recent real world events can only be an improvement on what we currently perform, much by custom and practice.

I wish it to be succesful if only to give the regulatory bodies a wake up call.

Me not gud at maths but-

Before 2017

2x 4 hr every 6 months = 8 hrs per year

+ 2 x 1hr manual handling sim ever 6 months = 2 hrs per year

Total = 10 hrs per year

After 2017

2 x 3 hrs every 6 months = 6 hrs per year

+ 2x 1.5 hr manual handling sim every 6 months = 3 hrs per year

Total = 9 hrs per year

Aren't we actually getting less ???????

Ps I'm sorry but 2 hours brief for a ppc check - just kill me now

It should be 16 hours. Unless the year is only 6 months... :E

Hope your fuel calculations are better than that, Rex. You weren't kidding when you said you're not good at maths.

Currently 2 X PPCs + 2 X MH = 18 hours (plus 2 support for MH usually).

New will be 3 x 3 hours twice yearly = 18 hours.

Most upgrade and conversion courses have more sim hours now if you compare the footprints.

1 hour of the brief will make up for the less sim time, as you do briefs, OPT calculations etc in the briefing room.

Lol I was just talking about the ppc not the "training" day

And it was a late night beery post

Let's ignore the handling sim, cause that's what's pushing up the average, and lets face it, the handling sims are the first to go out the window when they are short of pilots.

For your actual ppc plus training

Before 16 hrs per year

Now 12 hrs per year.

Plus 900 hours a year with a heavy jet strapped to your back.. How much more do you need?

Bring on no groundschool, 2x3hr sims twice per year.

Theres some cost savings! :E

Considering the amount of flying that we do, I think the hours we get in the simulator is appropriate.

EK is doing a lot of things differently than I'd choose to, but simulator scheduling isn't one of those things.
