Whilst listening on 118.82 last night there was a EGGW departing a/c that had just been handed over from EGGW on track to Detling.

Usually when a LTN departure off 26 calls London on this frequency and is on a DVR or CLN SID it is normally in the left turn to BPK making it's way over the St Albans area.

This a/c was much further South and it appears that it had already been given the DET track before it had contacted London.

Is it standard/common practise for the controllers at the departure airport to "ammend" the SID and drop a waypoint? I presume this needs to be done in strict collaboration with the London controllers.

Any information is always helpful.

Depends what time of night it was.

On night shifts we can offer all sorts of direct routings. Direct DET from EGGW not so unusual.

It was about 2100. The interesting thing was that it seemed to already be on the direct DET track on initial contact with London.

Do the controllers at London let EGGW know that this is possible, so that when the a/c is given it's clearance the SID is given along with the ammended track information?

The Luton Radar controllers sit a few feet from the London TMA Radar controllers at West Drayton so can easily liaise anything. Equally, the Luton Tower controllers have direct telephone links to the controllers at West Drayton - headset to headset - so they can talk directly to the guy who will next be working the traffic. I don't think there's anything too unusual about what you heard...
