I know that in Russia aircrafts fly the Flight Levels in feet (FL310, 330, 350 etc) but I'm curious as to how do we transition from a FL in feet in Russia lets say FL410 into Mongolian airspace which still operate in their FL in meters.

I tried looking on line but I'm not sure if the info is correct or not, perhaps outdated.

Can anyone explain the procedure or provide a link to an up to date source?

TIA

It has been about five years since I have done it. I haven't seen anything in writing, but from memory the ATC units coordinate between each other, then one clears you to change to the appropriate Flight Level when approaching the FIR boundary.

No big drama. The Russian controller will ask you what level you would prefer at the FIR or what levels are available. They will coordinate with Mongolian ATC. Shortly before the Boundry you will get a climb or descent to a level in Metres.
Procedure is also outlined in the AIRAD.
