I am a Kiwi with a CPL looking to head to Africa. I am in the initial stages of planning and would like some direction from any fellow NZers or Ockers who are currently on the continent. i.e what ratings are recommended, what countries in Africa etc.

You don't say if you're plank or rotary wing. If rotary wing, there are a few opportunities in Africa right now

You say there are opportunities in W.Africa right now? I'd like very much to hear of them. I am currently working in the region and may be in need of other opportunities.

So far its been an experience.

I'm a multi-IFR, ATPL heli driver.

No doubt you've heard of a town called Maun in Botswana. About a third of the pilots there are Kiwis.

No point in going there until about January though. Spend some time there to get au fait with the aviation community, then after a few months stand a chance of getting taken on. Most hiring takes place February through March.

I have done a search and found a lot of interesting stuff about Botswana. Looks very interesting.
