Does anyone know anything about this unit, which was active at Leuchars in 1964/5 at least, mainly it seems, to ferry Javelins overseas? The CO was one Sqn Ldr Webb but other than that I can find no reference to the unit anywhere.

That would probably be Bill Webb...in later days, he had a maintenance organisation in a hangar at Biggin Hill. They used to look after our Airtourer Super 150...he told tales about ferrying aircraft out east. A great bloke!! Still held a commercial licence into his 80s....

If it is, indeed, him.... http://www.johnwillis.co.uk/billwebb/

A bit of interesting stuff here but you would have to get the book to read all of it.

There was a unit, that was referred to as 'Ferry Flight', that ferried the Indian Air Force Hawker Hunters out to India. This was circa 1957/8.

I was at Istres at this time and we re-fuelled them.

Ferry Flight, in my early days, was at Benson. My first posting - to Aden - was courtesy of BOAC Argonaut and I was seated next to a Flt Sgt Len W.... who was going out to ferry back a Vampire from 8 Sqn. His introducing me to the perils of on board drinks meant arrival at Khormaksar was even more of a shock to the system!! ... Unhappy days!!
