Hello everyone, I had qatar interview in july(2016) one week later I received an e-mail confirming I was approved, some days ago I received an other e-mail informing to me that I have been put in the hold pool. The other guys (had the interview on the same day) already received their doj, any of you in the same situation? How long are you waiting? I applied to Boeing, FO position. My type: B737. Total hours: 3300.

Just a guess , but maybe they received a bunch of Type rated pilots or a lot more experience and they are trying to capitalize on that. EK has been doing that for years. I would not worry they will call .

Posting on this topic instead of the other one, since this is an specific matter.

I've been through assessment on late September. Received an approval e-mail one week later putting me on talent pool.

I'm FO, 737NG TR and have heard about Airbus and 777 TR guys receiving job offer to join on December and January. Apparently queue is a bit slower for NTR and 737 guys.

Did anyone on talent pool have received good news lately?

Hello.
Also in the Pool since December. 737ng with 1300 on Type. 1500 TT
Anyone has got an update recently?

privatepilotantalya
12th Jan 2017, 15:19
Apparently most of the talent pool is for the 737 TR people, as Qatar have not apparently received any Max orders yet , and some of the 737 people who have given start date are jumping to the 777

PapaHotel85
12th Jan 2017, 15:36
I thought that the 737Max will be not for Qatar. That they ordered them for other airlines like meridiana? That's what I was reading online.
Yes apparently it depends on the experience you have..

striker26
12th Jan 2017, 17:47
Yes, they will be used for QR's foreign investment in Meridiana but not all have been committed, puts pressure on Airbus to deliver the NEO's. MAny of the a320 orders have been converted to A321's as well....slow all around (for cadets, NTR and TR pilots) until QR gets fixed delivery dates i guess...

privatepilotantalya
12th Jan 2017, 20:26
As far as I know Qatar does not have 737 so is that mean all of the 737 TR pilots will move to the 777 and the 787

casablanca
13th Jan 2017, 04:30
Yes Qatar hires for 787/777....only Boeings they have.
They have been hiring people without 777 type if they have time on similar type...737,757,767,747 etc....

Don't worry they are still recruiting full speed and expanding. I think that the reason for the pool is the training capacity that cannot keep up with the expansion. Big numbers of new joiners every week.

Congrats on folks getting a date of join!

Considering the latest guys with a DOJ, I can suppose: Airbus queue is going faster than Boeing's. Also, those more experienced or with widebody experience are joining first. It's not an absolute rule of course, but seems they are taking these factors into account.

Is great to see things are moving forward! Think we'll all soon leave the pool.

I have to agree with above... depends on current needs etc..,, but I have seen several very experienced captains start within weeks of interviewing while less experienced pilots are floating in pool

An ex-colleague of mine... interviewed in October and started early last month - so 2months wait. He was an FO on the A320 and was offered the same at QR. He could've just been at the right place at the right time (and he had 1months notice).

It has been mentioned that how well you do during the assessment might also influence how quickly you're pulled out the pool.

Anyway, you'll all get your chance. Plenty of new aircraft still to be delivered.

Does anyone have a delivery list for 2017? Only one I found was at Airfleets and didn't mention any Boeing deliver for this year. But we know they were suppose to get like 10 777s at least.

I passed the interview late September and have been in the pool since then. Still no news.

Some candidates interviewed later already got a job offer. AFAIK, it depends on factors like your experience, if Type Rated or not and your notice period.

I have almost same experience as yours, also B737 FO.

Hi to all, just joined u guys in the pool few days ago. Airbus FO. Read all the post here, seems it s quite frustrating to wait for the DOJ. I just wonder, if I got the notice saying I m joining pool, would it mean that I will be offered a position anyway, just a matter of how long I have to wait? Would this offer be terminated and Should I re-apply for the position again after waiting for certain period of time? Anyway, good luck to u all! Hope everyone can get the notice of DOJ soon!

Hi dalmus,

Welcome. As far as I know your assesment is valid for 1 year only. If they can not offer a job for you within a year you have to do everything from the begining. Of course not so sure when this "one year" starts and finishes. Best of luck!

Thx for the info, I got the same answer from QR. if I am not offered anything within one year, that means my application is withdrew, it seems that passing the screening doesn't mean that I got the job... sigh...

Anyone here has this kind of experience, Didn't hear anything from the company and have to do everything again? How big is the probability?

Chill down mate. I have not heard of any case where someone was kicked out of the pool after 1 year . I guess the 1 year validity is only for planning purposes and 2 years ago they extended it from 12-18 month and also keep in mind that they are still recruiting people.

According to my former colleagues in TM, pool time is 6 months plus at the moment for "Mr Average" some with high scores had DJO but sheer volume means likely to be looked at again after May. Forgot to mention, apart from the DJOs which are given a fleet type, the pool is divided into FO swimmers with more than 2000 hrs (777) and this with less (787).. but its not a hard and fast rule, depends on needs. All DEC on 787

Hi.....
Usually the normal practice is to issue the offer letter close to your notice period. So depending on your current notice period(say for example 3 months), they will call you somewhere in may. If not you can still call them and check for an update.

I´m looking for some information regarding the Medical I will need for joining Qatar.

I have a German EASA Class 1 Medical without any restrictions after passing the Lantern-Test (colour vision test).

I´m now interested in applying with Qatar Airways. Does anyone of you know, if they just accept my German Medical or if I need to do one again there?

Furthermore, what´s the procedure there in such a case if I need to do a new Medical there?

Thanks!

As one would be flying a Qatar registered aircraft on a Qatar license, a Qatar(QCAA) medical will be required after joining in order to obtain the Qatar license.

Never give up a command position, especially to move here. If you want your career to grow, assuming a command on any aircraft is the way to success.

I think, it depends on your age and expectations about life and career. I am almost same position with you and expect to upgrade one and half year in Boeing. I consider myself as young as for commercial aviation and that's why Qatar takes precedence for me. After the upgrade in wide-body in Qatar Airlines, probably I will be seen young for commander position in wide-body type.

As far as I heard, right now the A320 fleet is almost complete, the whole situation with the Neos will slow down the needs for A320 candidates.....so it looks like we will be swimming for a long time (hopefully less than a year in order to keep the assestment valid)

While I agree, command time is invaluable I was just asking if your current situation allows for progression, chance to upgrade fleets or flow through to a major carrier. Is it someplace you want to stay?
The 195 seems like a very nice aircraft, however with that being said if you are looking to move in future most of the job adds that are currently offered require either airbus or Boeing experience. Places like the USA really don't emphasize type rating but rather pic turbine, other countries it is very important. What is your 5 or even 10 year plan?

Supply and demand

You can allocated any fleet anytime and what you think you may get on arrival could change although does not happen very often. Some 320 guys arrive and get 330. Some 330 guys and get assigned 320. This is very rare, but could happen and is mentioned in your contract offer that fleet allocation change could happen due to demand and needs at the time etc etc. All depends on fleet needs at the time and you, what hours you have etc etc. If the fleet allocated is more important to you than the company offering you the job, maybe you're coming for the wrong reasons. And just to add, although it's known the 320 fleet works hard, don't be fooled into thinking other fleets are holiday camps. You work hard on most fleets and some have plus and minus points about them. One last point, some here on the 320 fleet are very happy and don't want fleet change, so don't believe everything posted here.

I think you will be flown here (in business class if available) and put up in a nice hotel for 2-3 nights.

Interview day is a presentation of the company and what to expect followed by an ATPL exam with 50 questions.

Followed by an interview. If all goes well, sim in the evening in whatever sim is available.

Make sure you research the company very well as you will be asked what do you know about Qatar Airways.

Regarding the sim, fly the aircraft, CRM and be yourself.

Good luck

It depends very much on the company needs and training capacity.

From what I've been seeing lately it's taking 9-12 months between being approved and joining date.

But things can change rapidly, so don't take this as a rule.

This is probably one of the best run airlines in the world, with great career opportunities for those who bide their time, regardless of which fleet you join on. It's not a buffet where new recruits get to pick and choose the best bits. You either accept the position you're qualified for. Or not. If you start making demands on aircraft type before you even join they will simply drop you and contact the next candidate.

Would you care to elaborate on how you came to that conclusion?
Is it the never ending change of management that makes it good?
How about doing some real research into the airline's accident/incidents. Is that any good? And on that topic, have you talked to anyone about the 'real' safety culture vs the perceived?

A SKYTRAX award means absolutely nothing.

A SKYTRAX award means absolutely nothing.

The ambition to constantly improve, be it service levels, T&C, aircraft maintenance, staff travel, or something that affects us all, pilot training. When I joined nine years ago it was a miserable and punitive training environment. This has matured into something much more humane with the introduction of EBT, the focus actually being on getting pilots to become better pilots, not more fearful pilots. Of course there are areas which need change, but the improvements have been profound, I'm sure we can agree.

Maybe the never ending management changes are good? I have no idea who most of our managers are, I don't know their names, don't need to and don't care. My contract is followed to the letter, all I need to do in order to fulfill my part of the deal is turn up for work on time, in my hat, and follow SOP.

I know I will not get deceived into going into discretion, reduce my rest, or give up my leave days, unlike four previous airlines I've had the displeasure of working for. On the line I have technical and operational support functions better than anywhere else that I've experience, and which make my job that much easier.

Which airline of this size has no incidents? When we have them, changes are usually made and extra training allocated. Granted, warning letters are an outdated remnant of a dark past and should be binned. And pilots do get fired for sometimes dubious reasons, and some recent ones have been pretty colorful, but probably deserved, or not, who knows.

And rostering has room for improvement, no doubt. Fatigue is a factor on all fleets. But all things taken into account, yes a very well run airline in my view.

Absolutely agree about Skytraxx.

Fatbus, stick to Emirates issues.

Due to circumstances the A320 schedule has been reduced. This will affect those of you with A320 ratings that are waiting for start dates. We have recently employed A320 rated pilots directly onto A330, which has a busy schedule. Since no new A330 airframes are on the way, this means seats only become available as current A330 pilots move to A350. Patience is key.

Hi, is anyone in the talent pool able to log in to the advanced career center? Mine says please contact HR and doesnt let me log in. The normal applicant page says my application is "on hold". Just trying to figure out if there is something wrong, i also emailed QR but it will ofc take a while to get a response. In talent pool since October 2017. 1500TT FO, Boeing.
This is normal. You don't need to contact anyone.
Don't worry

Hi, exactly same situation. LBA Lantern Beyne passed with German Medical Class 1 now. Any more info on Qatar, did they end accepting the Bayne Lantern?
Thanks

Anyone knows if the Qatar Medical guys accept a lantern-test certificate? I won´t be able to pass the Ishihara plates.

Is there any specific office I can contact regarding this question?

Thank you!

For application its says minimum 1000 flight time but I never heard a 1000hours guy got a job offer. Especially for 777, I always met guys with 3000-4000 hours. So I don't believe they are calling from the list just as looking for pool entrance time. I know many 737 guys in the list including me waiting for 10-11 months.

Generally speaking 777 guys need >2500
If between1000-2500 hours expect A320/787
