Hi, brand new here, so it's a newbie Question :ugh:

I was involved on the fringes with SEQ rescue helicopter, and know that they all use the 500 series.

It wasn't until this week, that I've noticed perhaps an unwritten system where the series is based on the State's postcode. Eg SA flying doctor, and helicopters are using RSCU5x, even the flying doctor in QLD uses FD4xx.

So the question I ask, humbly, Why do SEQ use the 500 series?

I searched the forum first, without luck. Any guidance, ideas, etc would be appreciated.

Answer is here: https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/aip/general.pdf

Para 4.24.2 (I can't copy the text so I assume the document is locked).

It doesn't state explicitly whether the Post Code is being used, but they definitely correlate.
