Army officials said they had no idea why so many pairs of underpants went missing in action, but possible explanations included theft, loss and general wear and tear. I am trying to figure out if the conscripts are supposed to turn in their underpants after their term of service, or if these are considered a non repairable, or non reusable item in the Swedish supply system.

General wear and tear is where I'd bet, but perhaps the Swedish soldiers are so good looking that they are constantly exposed to the risk of panty raids.

Recycling is one thing, but I'm note sure I want to wear someone else's.

Whilst I hate to pooh-pooh this thread, the linked news item originated 12 years ago!

Are there any 'Y Front' Stations that could be used for SIGINT intercepts as to its location :E

I know it is an old story, but remember the annual kit muster in the barrack block (RAF). Airmen had to lay out all their kit on a bed in the barracks room, the bed itself made with a bedding block and kit mustered against a photograph plan.

Married men in quarters had to bring all their kit in too.

My uncle's discharge book, Australian Military Force, showed 3 or drawers cotton issued but only 2 mustered on 18 Sep 1945. He might have been wearing the other.

The Black Watch are above suspicion in this matter.
