Hello EKers,

So the new FOB saving device has been launched and I know of people already having problems.

A request from me please to help a buddy. Does anyone know how to run the same App with your personal login details on a second device. For example, if you now set it up on your iPad (phone was a success), you can get your personal User ID (Policy String) from....

Settings > Token Information > Policy String

In the second App, does one just copy the same policy string across to the new App? If so, it appears to be showing a different login access code than the iPhone and doesn't allow online login with the newer App code?

Any help appreciated in advance. There are probably instructions somewhere, but pilot often prefer the "what does this button do" approach.

Thanks, have a good day..

Hi JS.. The original instructions don't work, just ring IT and ask for another email with a link for a second device....worked for me about 3 weeks ago.

Alternatively there was a group of them in orange t-shirts on arrival back to lala land the other day. They sorted mine in about 2 mins. Service was good for once from IT, just a shame the technology is 10 years out of date...

So, is my understanding that the FOB will eventually disappear or is this 'new' app in addition to the current log in process? Not the best written email or perhaps it's just me!

Thanks for the response, I thought that was the case, just didn't want to believe it.

Probably in the 0.5% of those not fussed about smart phones. My sturdy Nokia does the business for calls and texts.....the rest of my life unencumbered by the constant distractions of the desire for constant connectivity. We have become a World obsessed by our smartphones, a social crutch replacing cigarettes for our hands with something to do and to spend hours and hours 'socialising' with both real and imagined friends. You can't go out on the roads without seeing people distracted by their devices (and innocent lives lost as a result) and the number of times people bump into you when walking I've lost count. I refuse to move out of your way if you can't be bothered to look where you're going! I rarely join the crew down route now as I'm sick of staring at a table of 9 all glued to their phones, especially when the 21yr old blonde laughs at the 11th text she's received within as many minutes. Conversation is becoming a dying art. Personally, I hate the bloody things.

So, rant over and certainly not expecting much sympathy here but out of principle, is it wrong for me to expect the Company to pay for a device that they require us to have for our job?

200dhs will hardly break the bank but out of principle.........:=

You don't actually need a smartphone for this to work. They have clients for both windows and mac os (only tested on mac os but it is working fine).

I requested a complimentary replacement FOB as my company issued phone is less than 'smart'. I received an email that if one did not have such a phone there would be no charge for the FOB and there wasn't.

If you do get a FOB and then download the app, they will then recoup the 200Dhs.

Thanks for the replies gents, it's not the clearest of emails but that would make sense now!

Classic, talk about penny pinching

Harry, could not agree with you more about the social crutch, much as I like having a smartphone, I also like leaving it turned off

You have to request a new token for each device. Same process as the first one.

I am with you Harry. The company gave me a nokia brick a bit over a decade ago. They expect me to return it to them when I leave. If they want me to save them money on FOBs they can provide the equipment. Renewed FOB for me.

Got my iPad sorted out and am getting the laptop as well. Now the question I have is, how can I access the portal from a remote computer without asking for a new AED 200 FOB? When out of country for whatever reason, I don't use my Dubai phone and the iPad is not always convenient. Man, if you want to be part of this company, you have to pay for the privilege.....pay to store your bag, pay to park at your place of work (EGHQ, aka the Bouncy Castle), pay for the privilege of logging on to a remote computer (if I understand correctly). Hope I'm wrong about this FOB business. Just the principle of the deal really.

All the above is not quite true. I had several sessions with IT Help to get it sorted out.

The Safepass app is just a code generator. You only need to load it on one device and type the code into any computer you are using, ie iPhone genrates the numbers, you type the numbers into the signon page on your PC.

The plan is to transfer 4000 pilots and cabincrew a month until all of us no longer have a FOB. Hand it back at the Crew Service Centre.

Sounds to me instead of a FOB you need either smart phone or an iPad/tablet on your person.

I'm anything but a company man, but you guys really are making this difficult.

For **** sake, if you have any sort of a smartphone, install the app to save carrying the stupid fob around.

If you are one of the 3 people who don't own one, or don't want to use the new app and your company phone is non-smart then you'll get a free fob. All is good in the world.

If you want to join the revolution and get rid of your company brick, you can upgrade it for free and install the app on a company smartphone.

It's just an electronic fob, it's not magic, it generates the same code as you would have on your fob - you can type it into any device or screen.

Not that difficult is it? I think we have bigger issues than this to worry about..

I'm for one very glad to get rid of the FOB. Been using Safenet for a month now and no issues whatsoever. If you don't have a smartphone or an iPad you probably have a Windows PC and there is even a Safenet client to install on your PC so you don't need anything else.

I put FOB close to Safenet on smartphone, to see if they were generating the same numbers at the same moment.

The answer is NO

Of course they aren't, it doesn't work like that. It's an algorithm based on a unique key of the device/app that's matched.
Anyway, does it work? Yes? Then who cares, if not, call ITSC.

w.t.f ? I downloaded the safenet app onto my iPhone and all I get is a screen that says"token enrollment" and gives me the option of manual enrolment, auto enrollement, delete token or cancel-- what the hell do I do next?- If I hit manual enrolment it asks for a "token policy string"... ?huh?
The email I got from EK says to click on the activate link in the email (which when I do says it is expired ..)- so, when on my iPhone, how do I do that?, in another screen totally separate from the safenet app? - i.e. I have to open the crew portal and open my inbox and click on the activate now link ?(which is defunct now anyway).. Then does that automatically connect with the safenet screen that is asking for a token policy string?
I am too old for this f***ing poorly explained sh*t.

That's the difference between somebody with a scientific background and you : we make experiments ...
and don't pretend to understand or teach something because you use the word "algorithm " ..... (as so many do )

Kobus, you're a bit of an arrogant prick aren't you? This thread is people making something simple very difficult. Instead of offering anything useful like helping people, you presented a completely useless piece of information that the numbers weren't the same on the app and the fob. All I stated was that it doesn't work like that. I'm not 'pretending' anything, I have a masters in computer science and worked in management level IT before flying. I didn't see the relevance of getting in to the technicalities of a hard/soft token authentication system which I understand perfectly well. It does use algorithms (128bit for the old RSA SecurID, not sure of all the details on the new one) but how it works isn't really relevant to this discussion is it?
I guess you're one of the 'Boeing/Airbus doesn't tell you this in the manuals, but..." types?

You'll have to call ITSC and get a new link. As the email says, the activation link is only good for 10 days. So long as the app is installed before you open the link, it recognises that when you click on the emailed link and it will open up inside the app and from there it's a 30 second process.

Do we get to keep the FOB even if we switched to SafeNet Mobile?
It was always an icebreaker at the executive lounge
"What is that? Just my security data access device...You work for a security agency? Well all I can say is that I work for an employer which takes security very seriously...I am also a pilot. One more martini?"
Something like that....I know, I am shallow.
