Do Type Rating Examiners need to have a valid Class 1 medical Certificate,
I have CPL(H) class 1 Med, but the Examiner in this case has CPL(H) but class 2 medical. should this be any problem?

the subpart K in EASA 1178/2011 says

FCL.1000 Examiner certificates
(a)
General. Holders of an examiner certificate shall:
(1) hold an equivalent licence, rating or certificate to the ones for which they are authorised to conduct skill tests, proficiency checks or assessments of competence and the privilege to instruct for them;
(2) be qualified to act as PIC on the aircraft during a skill test, proficiency check or assessment of competence when conducted on the aircraft.

but the we have this MED.A.030: (f) Applicants for and holders of a commercial pilot licence (CPL), a multi-crew pilot licence (MPL), or an airline transport pilot licence (ATPL) shall hold a Class 1 medical certificate.

has anyone ever had this issue come up before?
Would be nice to hear your opinion on this matter. I'm having debate with my authority so any help from regulation experts would be highly appreciated

I would imagine that if the training is all in a simulator it would be okay. If any of it is in an aircraft however.... you'd need a different TRE.

@ RyRy would the TRE not still be able to act as PIC of the helicopter on the 2nd class medical? Iīm just asking. Itīs a interesting dilemma.

A TRE canīt do a skill check (PPL or LAPL) or what? Would need to be FE me thinks.

But can a TRE holding a 2nd class medical do a SETH type rating. I really can not find anything that sayīs he canīt.
