Narrative:
A British Aerospace U-125 of the Japan Air Self-Defence Force was destroyed in an accident in mountainous terrain near Kanoya Air Base, Japan with 6 persons on board. The aircraft was attached to the Hiko Tenkentai Flight Check Squadron based at Iruma Air Base and was dispatched to Kanoya Air Base for a navaid calibration flight.
The plane took off Kanoya at 13:15 hours. At the time of the accident, 14:35, the plane flew an anti-clock-wise 6nm radius arc of Kanoya TACAN (JAT) in VFR, following a low pass over runway 08R. The last recorded altitude on the radar was 880m (2900 feet). Ontake peak of Mt. Takakuma is 1182m (3875 feet).

The aircraft operated on a navaid calibration flight out of Kanoya Air Base. The wreckage was located on April 7.
