I thought he went as co-pilot on his 707, but saw a pic this morning of him in the LHS - does anyone know whether he captain's the 707 himself or not?

Also does anyone know when he's due in Auckland? Never seen a 707 in action before so might make my way out if rwy 23 is in use.

cheers.

Take a look on the Qanta web-site under NEWS. He is planning a round-the-world goodwill trip. Best of luck to him :)

Didn't I read somewhere that he'd bought a 747SP? (ex QF?). Would this have replaced the 707?

I believe he's qualified as F/O on the 747, with Qantas. Quite separate, he owns a 707, and flies it as Captain.

It's the 707 which he's flying around the world to celebrate gaining his 747 rating, promote aviation, and promote Qantas. He's quoted in my newspaper as saying he has no plans to buy his own 747!

Sorry, this was the post I was thinking of:

I didn't keep up with it - at the end it does say that he DIDN'T buy it after all.

He is not qualified as an F/O for Qantas, so don't expect to hear his voice over the PA on any scheduled Qantas services!

In exchange for his "around the world" public relations trip in his ex-Qantas B707, Qantas gave him a type rating on the B744.

Before I knew about this, I was waiting to go into the sim very early one morning. The bridge came down and out hopped John Travolta himself. I was somewhat flabbergasted as it's not the kind of place you expect to run into a celebrity. I had a short chat to him and he seems like a nice guy.

Draculas, you said:

He is not qualified as an F/O for Qantas
Not sure I understand you - do you mean that he's qualified as a 744 F/O, but that he doesn't actually fly them for Qantas (nor, presumably for anyone else)?

Cheers,

Sounds about right. He's done FO training on the 744 with Qantas but he's not employed by them. I don't think he needs the money. ;)

Here's an ARTICLE (http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,10152,00.html) on his plans.
