A340-600(I think)

Spotted one of these last Friday afternoon whilst poodling up North on the M1. It was in Airbus house colours.

Any ideas on what it was doing there??

Cheers.

It was doing a fly past for Rolls Royce in Derby and stayed overnight at EMA, so as RR employees could have a look on board.

This is because they have supplied the Trent engines for this new version of the A340.

I believe it is now the largest comercial aircraft, being 6 foot longer than the 747.

It returned to Toulose and will be changed into Virgin Atlantic colours as they are the launch customer for this new type of A340, with this one being the first off the line.

I'm not sure when it goes into service for them though.

EMA = East Midlands Airport (Nottingham International). Junction 23A off the M1.

It must be the first one (ie test bed) as VS first aircraft is already in VS colours!
