Down there yesterday to cover this exercise and was quite surprised to find 2 A4 Skyhawks, listed as "private contractor" involved in what I assume is a specific NATO exercise.

This is the line up which I was supplied :- F-16AM from Belgium, Mirage 2000C from France, a NATO E-3 SENTRY, A-4 Skyhawk from a private contractor, EF-18 Hornets (12th, 15th and 46th Wings), Eurofighter Typhoon (11th and 14th Wings), C-101 Aviojets (MATACAN), C-295 (35th Wing) and Super Puma and Persuader (802 Squadron).

One of the Skyhawks was in Standard NATO grey, whilst the other was in a gray, blue, white blotch camo.

The best I could get out of the co-ordinator was "ask the Americans".

Perhaps Draken International (http://www.drakenintl.com/)

Any Clues ?

Stitch, I would guess that you are right... Discovery Air (used to be Top Aces) operate A-4N Skyhawks as part of their fleet.

You can often observe two or three of those A-4s over NW Germany on Radar24.:ok:
