Has anyone seen one of the anti-gravitic black triangles that have been flying over the UK recently??

No, but then again, I'm up to date with my medication...

If you see one buy it, the TR3b was only in production for a few months and is worth a few bob, forget black, looked much nicer in red!

I prefer the TR4A and TR5 myself...

I once drove a TR6 does that count.

TR4A IRS, TR5 or TR6 are all superb. My father nearly bought a TR6, but decided on an MGB GT instead....:( But it could have been worse - he nearly bought a Jensen Healey!

The TR6 was very nicely styled, but then came the utterly hideous wedge-shaped TR7 - even in its relatively rare TR8 version, it was an utter turkey!

I liked my rotting AH Sprite in Singapore. Even managed to ... well, 'nuff said.

With the cloud cover we've had I've rarely seen anything flying this year!

Major Day drove a TR7 once, I still spoke to him. I had a Scimitar.

He once said If the Vulcan ever flies again he'd eat his hat, I never did ask him if it was delicious.

MPN11 - I always wondered who had owned my Sprite before me. What fun indeed!

PS - I've just wiped a black triangular shaped object off my shoe - is that what we are looking for?

Normally, round about now, someone mentions chemtrails.

MPN11 - not back to the topic of lengthy correspondence in Motor Sport in the 1959/60 era on whether or not congress was possible in a Sprite are we - which was finalised by a "This correspondence must end - Ed"

Wander00 ... Exhibit A, c. 1968. I have no recollection of the previous correspondence in Motor Sport, and simply conducted my own evaluation of the possibilities.

Is that a non-standard bonnet? or an "overseas" model?

Many moons ago a friend on the Sqn had an old MGB Roadster and prior to selling it he decided to clock it, removing the gauge and popping off the back he was met with a piece of paper glued inside the rear casing with the immortal words penned upon on it.

"Ohhh No, not again"

Wander00 - it was an Ashley Silverstone bonnet.

My father nearly bought a TR6, but decided on an MGB GT instead.... But it could have been worse And in our family it was!!

Father Teeters nearly bought a Healey 3000, but decided on a Spitfire! :{:{:{

Regarding 'activities' and Mk 1 'frog-eye' Sprite, the Nav Radar on my first Vulcan crew assured me that it was indeed possible - across the still-warm bonnet, or so he told us...:ooh:

But inside an MG Midget? The handbrake would be a significant issue, but it was nice of the designers to put it on the left hand side of the transmission tunnel as 'accidental' thigh contact could be made in all innocence.....allegedly ;)

MPN11
16th Feb 2016, 12:34
Pshaw ... on the bonnet doesn't count. I'm talking passenger seat here, albeit without a roof/hood (well, the hood had rotted away anyway, so it was always open top). Ah, those heady days of being slim, and flexible ...

Beagle,

In the days of the old Austin Seven, one definition of a Gentleman was: "A man who can change gear in a Baby Austin without getting his face slapped !"

(Another was: "A man who can play the bagpipes - but doesn't !") :=

MPN11,

....and when we had bench seats... :*

I learned to drive on my father's Humber Hawk - which had luxurious-upholstered fully-reclining front seats (making horizontal activities possible).

Later, I progressed to my mother's Morris Traveller (which required a scramble - but the flattened rear seat - and a willing partner - made anything possible).

MPN11

....and when we had bench seats...

My Hillman Minx and Vauxhall Victor FB saw sterling service in that regard ;)

Oh, dear, what a dissolute/tacky life one led. Especially when single officers had, effectively. nowhere else to go for such pleasures.

G-CPTN ... a certain energetic girlfriend had use of her mother's Mini, which was great/adequate with the seats folded forward. Sadly, she then got her own Triumph Herald, which had seriously hazardous front-seat runners intruding into the rear seat 'play-room' Some rapid re-assessment of technique was needed to avoid knee injury.

If you'll forgive me for adding a slightly less sordid tone to the thread, my understanding was that the supposed 'TR-3' was a misinterpretation of an abandoned UAV project named 'Tier III'.
Vaguely recall an excited article in Air Forces Monthly about 20 years ago regarding the aircraft supposedly being sighted over the UK.

Vauxhall Victor FB

Not only bench seats, but a column change, which got rid of that pesky gear-lever.

@Chris

There was Air International - Oct 94 issue - Farnborough special and I seem to recall, there was an article or one page mentioning how the supposedly TR-3B platform complemented the F-117 during Desert Storm say in destroying Saddam's radar network...

It was rumored to be flown single pilot and not unmanned....

http://tr3aurora.********.co.uk/2013/02/exposed-usafs-tr-3-aurora.html

https://fas.org/irp/mystery/tr3a.htm

Though the mystical / mythical descriptions suggest its B-2 or B-1B sized but I doubt if it be that size for the obvious as it is assumed to be a battlefield recon ...

cheers

I found the gear lever wasn't a problem in small cars,
but it was easier if you put it in first!

The French (who else ?) had the right idea.

My Peugeot 403 (1960-1973) was best of all. Steering column gearshift. Umbrella handle handbrake over on the RH wall. The two individual front seats were shaped to form a bench when adjusted to the same travel. In the full-forward position, the seat backs could be lowered to butt-in to the front of the rear seat. Result - a six-foot double mattress (they advertised it as a selling point for the car).

When I bought it I was a married man of five year's seniority. Ah, well :*

Danny.

Well, c'mon, mate.. Once it's in, nothing else matters. (or so I'd found).

But inside an MG Midget? The handbrake would be a significant issue....

It was, but one was young, adventurous and ra**y. When I say adventurous I mean it. At 1.94 m the Midget was not the best choice of car.
