View Full Version : 208 Squadron Centenary

OC 208 Squadron
19th Jan 2016, 19:29
To all association members and former serving members of 208 Sqn.

As you know, No 8 Squadron, Royal Naval Air Service, was formed on 26 October 1916 on the Western Front to support the British Army. On 1 April 1918, when the RNAS and the RFC were combined to form the Royal Air Force, Naval 8 became No 208 Squadron RAF.

To mark the Centenary of that 1916 formation, No 208 Squadron at RAF Valley is planning a series of celebratory events throughout 2016, however the main event for ex-208 Squadron personnel and Association members will take place on 1 April, to which all aircrew, groundcrew and support staff that have served on 208 Squadron are welcome to attend.

Fri 1 April will be based around a course graduation and an open invitation to all RAF FJ squadrons to fly their aircraft into RAF Valley. Throughout that day, the Squadron accommodation will be open and there will be an opportunity to view our commemorative centenary aircraft, take lunch, either on the Squadron or back at the Officers' Mess and enjoy the flying displays. The main event will be the Centenary Dining In Night in the Officers' Mess later that evening which is filling up rapidly already!

It is anticipated that numbers will be limited so book early.

Any serving, ex-serving and 208 Squadron Association personnel who may like to attend any or all of the 1 April celebrations should forward their contact details to 208 Squadron as follows:
