Carill aviation Southampton is excellent. I did my CPL and IR there - good instructors, good planes.

Thanks for the input....

Can't believe the cost of flying in the UK. Three times the cost of Australia!

I guess it's gotta be done though.

PAT at Bournemouth is excellent and based at the test centre as well, very useful.

Got a First time full pass there for my IR.

Cheers and good luck!

Bournemouth Flying Club seems very good, and surprisingly professional given their name. They have avery high pass rate, are relatively cheap and (given recent events this is important) they will not accept money up front - pay as you fly, so no financial risk.

If ETA (Examiner Training Agency) in Bournemouth are doing CPL/IRs then they are extremely professional, and the two instructors I know there are two of the most competent and experienced in the business (I flew with one last year, my father used to with the other 35 years ago!).

yeah Bournemouth flying club is the best, the name certainly doesn't stick out but they are changing it soon.

Oh yeah, has anyone noticed the new addition to there fleet!.. another B46A, Beech Dutchess, there turnover lately has been sooo good that they have bought another a/c..

Bournemouth Flying Club is excellent - instructors and facilities are very good. I completed my PPL there and have had no problems with any of it - seriously considering continuing with them - the only limiting factor as ever is £

being somone who hopefully has their finger on the pulse bournemouth flying club has the edge over thier competitors on the field (eghh) The first time pass rate is excellent and the people there have taken sft's mantle. Military types tend to be PAT main source of business. ETA are an unknown quantity and whilst i agree with clowns comment regarding instructor quality they are the new kids on the block. I would add I have no allegiance to any of the schools on the field but I would like to think I know the difference between quality and average service . By the way cheshire I know you are blonde but the spelling is DUCHESS and Clowns get a life or a job preferably in academia.

I thought it might interest some of you to know that while ETA are relatively new, the instructors that run this company are from the now defunct SFT Training school that used to be at EGHH.

From what I've heard the instructors are very professional, but I haven't had any direct contact with them to verify this.

Got to be PAT at Bournemouth.Owned and run by a CAAFU examiner! He knows all the tricks of the trade! Very good history of first time passes. Nice, genuinely helpful people.

Three Green,. .Check out the adverts section in the next 'Flyer' and you will discover that ETA has gained a couple more barrels to its guns. Don't dismiss new "old" kids on the block!!

Red Demon, you are correct!

A few of the old chaps from SFT have got together and are setting themselves up in the same line of work.

One of the old ground school guys has now got approval to teach the ATPL subject matter

The old FNPT2 sim has been transferred to the Sim hall at European’s base in Bournemouth in order for IR renewals / training to be completed etc – this just a temporary move!, I think Tony Kember is doing this and now has the approval. I believe he purchased the FNPT2, Frasca and the HS125 sim from the administrators of SFT – (not a bad steal for £25k) should have got one of sims for my back room.

Good luck to em!!

Thanks for all the advice,

Seems to be a 50/50 split between PAT and Bournemouth Flying Club, going to have to do some visiting.
