Harvey E Gann was at the Fredericksburg Trade Days show this weekend, so I picked up a copy of his book and he signed it. Had a very brief conversation, he's over 90, but he seems to be doing OK.

His book: Escape I Must is about being captured after bailing out of a B-24 and being a POW for 15 months, to include multiple escapes.

Good stuff, and a sobering thought or two when one considers how the world has changed since Harvey was flying as a gunner on B-24 missions. (His longer term career was as a cop).

It's a privilege to meet these guys and possibly have a few words with them, time is running short.

Is he related to Earnest Gann?

Is he related to Earnest Gann? I don't think so, he does not mention such in his introduction about his childhood in Texas (Del Valle, near Austin). His hometown became the site of what later was known as Bergstrom Air Force Base, but began as Del Valle Army Air Field.

Ernest Gann was born in Lincoln, Nebraska.
