As the US Military moves towards a Gender Neutral Policy for assignment to Combat Units and exposure to arduous Combat Conditions, studies have shown the USAF to be far ahead of its Sister....errrrrr Fellow......errrr other Services within the US DOD.

The other branches of the US Military are having to re-think many policies and equipment procurement specifications as a result.

Just as well, we weren't particularly noted for "small arms marksmanship."

You do realise the duffelblog is intentionally satirical don't you? :-)

I was greatly amused by this, not least because my son and daughter-in-law at their summerhouse near Helsingor in Denmark have an ecological loo which requires blokes to sit to pee - so not so far fetched!

Very perceptive of you, Jimlad.

Hmm... In Germany, a man who sits to pee is described as a 'Sitzpinkler' - the term is now used to describe someone who is a bit of a wimp.

Just piss in the sink, it uses less water.

88 inches would be a challenge for most men. 55 inches OTOH is well within the capability of most young men. Whether they would hit the hole is something else again.

If true, it sounds like an invitation to the guys to urinate standing up in full view of ANY colleague :E

Apochryphal (ie probably b0110cks) tale was that way back in the dark ages - 70s and 80s - the bog doors were all removed in US service toilets to discourage inappropriate acts!

So nothing new under the sun Basil:ok:

In the WWII Pink Palace Barracks (Wooden Barracks built for Temporary Housing that were used well up the mid-to-late 70's or even later in some places)....the Bogs were set up in L Shaped layouts....with no partitions at all so no matter how you tried....everything you were doing was in plain view.

So much for any concern about privacy or modesty.

Even Natural Acts were deterred!

charliegolf,

Further back than that in fact. This arrangement was in force in '41 and '42 in US bases. You got used to it surprisingly quickly - and you could have a good natter with your neighbours while you were at it.

The bamboo "basha" Deep Trench Latrines in India/Burma in WWII were on the same plan.

My Post #3047 on p.153 of "Gaining an RAF Pilot's Brevet..." may be of interest in this connection.
