I know we had a thread on this a while back - can't find it
It seems odd to me to order two end of line 747's - they might fly for 40+ years and spares/servicing will be a nightmare
A new LR 777 (actually an A.380 would be better but let's be realsitic) would have the range and is likely to be in production for years
it's not that much smaller than a 747 and the electronic add-ons should be a lot smaller than the current set - and they're still a lot bigger than the B.707's that were in use at the height of the Cold War. The old 4 engines good - 2 engines bad mantra has been laid to rest surely
The only problem I see is that you can't get quite as many people onto the B777 - so a few SO's, politco's and journo's would have to be bumped......
