On the 12th January 2016 33 Squadron, Royal Air Force will be celebrating 100 years since it's official formation in 1916.

As with other Sqns that have reached this historic milestone, the Sqn is planning a number of events to celebrate and commemorate this anniversary.

A formal parade and dinner has been planned to which we have opened an invitation to all current and ex-military personnel who have served on 33 Squadron RAF at some point during the last 100 years!

Unfortunately due to the potential numbers, this will have to be limited to indivduals only (ie no partners, spouses).

Places are filling up very quickly so if you would like more detail, please send an enquiry email with your name and contact details, along with your 33 Sqn history to the following address:

33SC,
I was on 33 when we had Javelins at Middleton St George and it is good to hear that it has made the magic ton. I cannot attend but all the best for a successful day.

Thanks to all those who have sent for information so far.

We would be very grateful if anyone who has connections with other forums or associations that may have members who are interested in the Centenary could post a link to this page or to our social media page.

Just a quick reminder if anyone would like to join us in January, we will need notification as soon as possible of your intention to come along to Benson.

Please use the email address in the post at the top.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 12th, if not before at the Puma Reunion! :ok:

Hmm...no mention anywhere, not even on the BFBS site, that it's the anniversary of it's formation as Royal Flying Corps squadron. :=

You obviously missed the BFBS interview currently being broadcast which clearly states it was formed by a RFC Major in 1916.
And BBC Oxford.
And Forces TV
And....
Don't let that get in the way of your agenda though. :=

I can't get BFBS, Forces TV or BBC Oxford, and I don't have an agenda. Just an observation of general media comments found via google.

I did see that you mentioned it on your Facebook page though. :)

Oh dear, 33 Sqn celebrates 100 years of loyal service, 2 under its former ownership & 98 under its present, but some people are so small-minded as to search for a perceived slight in almost everything. It's a bit of a given that all the RAF sqns currently or recently celebrating centenaries started out as part of the RFC, hardly a secret or covered up. No conspiracy of silence here.

Congratulations to 33, may you serve for many more.

Congratulations 33, the Daily Express infers you should all fatten up and fly the F35 ;)

If the Royal Flying Corps was so good, why did they have to create a Royal Air Force.
