Driving home yesterday, Thursday 10 Sept, on the M25, anti clockwise, I was surprised to see a wrapped up Coastguard S61 on a trailer travelling on the clockwise carriageway. It was too well wrapped up to get any more identification other than it as a Coastguard machine. There didn't appear to be any damage to the externals of the helicopter so perhaps going into store?

Does anyone know where it was going to/from?

Norwich to Greenland. See the thread on the history of the S61 on this forum.

Check G-INFO aircraft databsea and search, its usually a good source of info as to whether an airframe is current or retired

Thanks for the responses. Sad to see the S61 all wrapped up like it is going to be used again and then to find out it is going to be broken up for spares.

BPWB was still at Norwich on 11th (pending greenland), so it must have been BIMU "on the road" on 10th (to US for spares)

Thanks Banksman :ok:

bp is only at about 17000 airframe hours, I doubt it is going for sparea, more likely have the nose shortened to a shortsky and a 16 hour day ahead of it logging for Okanagan or some such outfit in canada
