In Aug '64 I was with 45 Cdo RM in Radfan, Aden, and fell down a cliff. Scout winch too short , and longer winch sent up from Aden ,but can't recall whether it was a whirlwind (RAF?) or Wessex (RN/RM)

From my point of view (from underslung Neil-Robertson,) rescue involved some hairy hovering with 'fan' close to cliff, but safely delivered to Khormaksar hospital. wonder if there's an account of this rescue (e.g in a log somewhere)? Can anyone help identify?

Whirlwinds HAR 10 and Sycamores HC 14 shown here on the SAR Flight, plus 26 Sqn Belvederes: Khormaksar history for 1964 (http://www.radfanhunters.co.uk/Ksar-1964.htm)

I'm sure someone will pop up on the thread who was there at the time and offer some help.

In Aug 1964 it was probably 845 Squadron with a Wessex 1. If it was a tricky rescue, I doubt if the RAF would have done it!!:ok:

Sycamore a no-no due to lack of power; Whirlwind, maybe, esp with N-R stretcher but limited cable length - 60'; Wessex more likely.
