... some time ago Flight International had an article about a MiG Stealth bomber design along with a picture. I was wondering if anyone else had heard or read anything about it. Don't remember the picture very well, but I do remember that the design impressed me.

Hello Boys and Girls and fellow citizens of Wibble,

Sukhoi SU-37 Terminator (http://www.studenten.net/customasp/axl/picture.asp?cat_id=6&ple_id=146&page=0&pte_id=1193)

Mig MAPO 1.42 (MFI) (http://www.studenten.net/customasp/axl/picture.asp?cat_id=6&ple_id=144&page=0&pte_id=194)

Sukhoi SU-47 Berkut (S-37) (http://www.studenten.net/customasp/axl/picture.asp?cat_id=6&ple_id=127&page=0&pte_id=861)

Mig 37 Ferret? (http://www.aviation.ru/MiG/MiG-37.jpg.html)

The Mig 37 seems by all reports to be in the concept / design stages and as yet production hasn't stared and looks to be along way off. The Mig Mapo project is in its test stages, the russians dont have the finances for this project from what I have been reading so I don't know how they will be financing this project. They only just managed to get this far with the Mig Mapo project The Mig Mapo has been around for years and the finances have only just been provided for it to get to the finished prototype but as yet it still hasn't flown. So I don't know how this Mig 37 project is going to progress, my guess is that you wont see anything other than drawings and sketches for the next year or so! Hope this is of help anyway.

Speaking of stealth, I like it when little snippets of gen leak out.
About 15 years ago a small report of a congressional hearing appeared in AW&ST in which it was reported that targets for the B-2 would be located by the TR-3. Nothing else ever appeared. Vanished without trace.

The report was picked up by all the Area 51 watchers et al and ever since the wb sites have been full of speculation about whether it really existed, was it stealth, was it Aurora, was it manta ray described by witnesses. But absolutely no official report ever appeared again.

This weeks AW&ST carries another snippet.

Quote: "After abandoning the hugely expensive, ultra-secret stealthy Quartz and TR-3 unmanned reconnaisance aircraft in the 1990s, interest is beginning to revive........."

One has to wonder if a manned version of the TR-3 is still in service. And this is the only reference I have ever seen referring to the Quartz program.....

I remember reading a few similar snippets in Jane's a few years ago - a heavily censored document (about US airforce research spending, if I remember correctly - I probably dont :) ) was released, except they had forgotten to remove a few things from a glossary at the back. No actual information, but a couple of acronyms etc.

ive always wondered if stealth aircraft are in fact a con. we kept hearing about how it cant be seen on radar, so how did the serbs manage to shoot one down? i have been told that the raf e3 force could see them on their radar and told the steath fighter sqn, but they wouldnt listen!!
