Took me a minute to get what all the fuss is about. LTE spin I suspect due to heavy and and running out of left pedal as he approached a hover.

Here is one from a few years ago:

WTF......

What is wrong with the helicopter...........why does it happen????

I think the pilots must use double underwear....

It very well could have been a hydraulic hardcover on the t/r servo which I have had in the past on these.

Seems to be spinning the wrong way for LTE in the Greek video?

Does it go the other way in the southern hemisphere?

It's a little unclear but I think Peter is right - the first few seconds show the aircraft rotating anti-clockwise, then clockwise in the recovery and fly away.

The scary part is that we can see two youtube videos of this event with the Skycrane.... and i can not help wonder.....could this be a "natural" event on this helicopter?????

Fear......

It seems to be an event that may occur, particularly if you consider that the aircraft are being manoeuvred at high weights in challenging conditions and (usually) high temperatures.

It also seems that the crews are aware of it and briefed on the recovery - Both the examples I've seen on video have shown what seems to be a well drilled and successful recovery - I'm not aware of an airframe having been lost to such an event.

As for direction of rotation - I see what Peter and 212 mean - in the initial couple of seconds it's difficult to be sure, but I think that the impression of anticlockwise rotation is a by product of the poor visibility, nose down attitude and perspective. I think that rotation is clockwise throughout (but stand to be corrected).

@Gordy Yeah, took a few more looks and you are correct. Funny though because I watched it about 3 times, even made me confirm the MR direction, could have sworn (from the first part of the video) he was turning left. Your video was a classic however. :ok:
