Yesterday afternoon we were "at the seaside", along the coast from Lymington, UK South Coast. At about 5pm a solitary Red Arrow flew overhead, approaching from the south, passing west of The Needles and overhead Barton on Sea. It continuing out of sight to the north.

We didn't see or hear the others. Do they ever display singly? Perhaps a test flight or maybe one coming back late from somewhere furrin.

Anyone?

As it was Armed Forces Day the team may have split up after the Guildford flypast in order to be seen at as many AFD events around the South as possible.

Also, FYI, Red 10 often flies as a singleton to display venues in advance of the 9-ship - he is both the spare ac and the compère for the show and getting there beforehand is pretty critical.

There was a single Typhoon that flew over the New Forest about the same time.

We don't see may of them down here unfortunately.

To the best of my knowledge, the lone arrow was Red 11, who arrived at Bournemouth airport early yesterday evening.

The rest of the team flew on to France for a display today, before then flying back and arriving at B/mth this afternoon where they were based for the Goodwood display.

Slight thread drift...

Watching the Reds near Goodwood on Saturday, it appeared the display split midway leaving a syncro '4' doing their thing...was this a special for Goodwood or is the syncro pair a thing of the past?

Good display though :)

Synchro pair still very much part of the display. They do some 4 and 5 ship manoeuvres.
